Start with the work you do most
You spend an hour drafting a proposal, restructuring headings and revising a table. That is a different session from opening a proposal someone else wrote and following its links to supporting documents. Both involve Markdown, but the interface has a different job.
Typora combines composition and rendering in one live-preview surface. Aero Markdown begins with an existing file or folder and presents the rendered page. Its source editor is available when you choose to edit. The distinction is the default action: putting words into a document or reading the document already on disk.
This is not a claim that Typora cannot be a reader. A formatted editing surface may already be all you need. Equally, Aero Markdown’s editing mode does not turn its product focus into a full writing environment. Choose by the part of the day that matters to you.

Typora’s product page and file-management documentation support these entries. The overlap is substantial: folders and headings are not features that only Aero Markdown offers.
Folder navigation is about arrangement, too
Typora documents a file-tree or file-list sidebar, an outline panel and global search. Its file sidebar can also create, rename and move files. That is relevant when the folder is part of your writing workspace. Typora file management explains the available operations.
Aero Markdown keeps a different arrangement at the center: the existing tree, the page and the outline at the same time. It emphasizes following an ordinary relative link, returning through history and moving to the next or previous document. When you are reading a specification with several supporting files, those paths matter as much as how the first page looks.
Take a real example: you find an acceptance criterion, open the architecture reference, read the local-files decision and return. Do you want the cursor ready for a rewrite at every step, or do you want a separate reading window beside your editor? That preference is more useful than counting which app has a sidebar.
Editing and external changes
Typora’s value is clearest when you are writing continuously. You can revise the formatted text without keeping a separate source preview open. If that is your daily task, a dedicated reader is a companion rather than an automatic replacement.
Aero Markdown lets you enter the raw source, make a correction and save the same file. Its optional preview beside the source appears while editing. During ordinary reading, the rendered page stays central. If another app rewrites the open file, it reloads at the current heading unless you have unsaved edits; those edits are preserved and the disk change is reported.
That makes the reader useful alongside a coding agent or another writing app. It does not mean that you should draft every document there. Use the reader-versus-editor guide if you are deciding whether to keep those jobs together.
Export can decide the choice
A formatted page is only one part of a publishing workflow. Typora documents native PDF and HTML export, plus a broader set of outputs with requirements such as Pandoc. Its export guide explains the format-specific controls.
Aero Markdown offers print, PDF and local HTML. It does not claim to replace Typora’s publishing formats. If the requirement is DOCX, EPUB or a particular template, evaluate the tool around that deliverable. If the task is to read local project documents and occasionally share a PDF, the narrower output scope may be sufficient.
Use a copy of the rendering corpus and open the exported result separately. A readable preview does not establish that a long table, local image or internal link will survive the chosen export configuration.
Price and who should choose which
Typora lists $14.99 before tax, a 15-day trial and a licence for up to three devices. See its purchase information and licence details. Aero Markdown is $14.99 USD, one-time, for a lifetime Aero 1.x license for one Mac. Download and checkout are not available yet.
For sustained drafting and broad exports, Typora is the more directly aligned tool. For reading a folder produced elsewhere, consider Aero Markdown’s separate reading window when it becomes available. Keep both roles separate if that already works: a writing app you like does not need to be replaced to give your documentation a dedicated place to read.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Questions, answered.
Is Typora only an editor, or can it read Markdown too?
It does both. Its live-preview surface renders the text while you work, and it includes a file tree and outline. A separate reader is a preference for a different workflow, not a requirement for reading Markdown.
Does Aero Markdown replace Typora’s export tools?
No. Aero Markdown offers print, PDF and local HTML. Typora documents a broader export workflow, including formats that require Pandoc. Choose around the output you actually need.
Does Typora have a trial?
Typora advertises a 15-day trial and a one-time licence for up to three devices. Aero Markdown is $14.99 USD, one-time, for a lifetime Aero 1.x license for one Mac. Download and checkout are not available yet.
